King Katsu Land: three directions and the first search snapshot

Three coded design directions for two locations, each with its own order links. From Sep 25 to 27, 62 people clicked Order: 34 for Daly City and 28 for Newark.

The shop

King Katsu Land serves Korean-style pork cutlet in Daly City and Newark, California.

Three directions, built in code

For King Katsu Land, we designed three directions and built each as a working page. The owner could review the layouts, menu and location information on a phone as well as a desktop.

  • Crown Noir: black marble, a spotlight and crown gold. Made for evenings and a premium position.
  • Katsu Land Pop: a vermilion field, chunky type and cut-out plates, as playful as the "Land" in the name.
  • Gyeongyangsik Editorial: cream paper and serif type, the nostalgia of a Korean western-style diner, set like a magazine.

All three follow the same six sections: hero, story, menu, the challenge that is unique to this shop, the two locations, and a call to order.

Research before design

The directions came after the research: a sales brief of 21 slides and a research board on who searches nearby, what they ask and who ranks today. Facts first, then the site.

Search and orders, updated September 28

Whole domain. The new site replaced an older one on the same domain on Sep 22. Google impressions were at a similar daily level before and after, so they are not shown as a result. Order links open DoorDash, Grubhub or Uber Eats for each location.

The search figures compare September 25–27, 2026 with September 22–24, in Pacific time, retrieved from Search Console on September 28. September 26 and 27 are still preliminary. The totals include HTTP and HTTPS pages on the production domain and its www host, aggregated by page, and exclude staging hosts.

In the latest three days the site appeared on Google's first page, an average position of 10 or better, for 231 different queries. For 37 of them it held the top position, including "food in daly city", "soup restaurant near me" and "restaurants near daly city". Broader local searches moved up: "korean food near me" from an average position of 9.3 to 3.8, and "korean restaurant near me" from 11.7 to 5.0. The figures are domain totals, including the restaurant's existing search history.

Each location has its own Order links, to DoorDash, Grubhub and Uber Eats, and GA4 counts a click on one once per visit. Setup checks ran on September 23, so these figures start after them. From September 25 to 27, 62 people clicked Order: 34 for Daly City and 28 for Newark. These are clicks toward an order, not completed orders.
